Parents

Parent participation is the lifeblood of this school! Parents are the first teachers and most significant adults in children’s lives. The key to improving student achievement is family involvement in education. Whether you are providing support at home, communicating with the school, or volunteering at the school, you are helping our students and community achieve excellence. We are lucky to have parents at the school with so much talent and energy! Diverse backgrounds, experiences, skills, and interests are invaluable in their strength to support the students and the school. We are so grateful for your involvement. Thank you!

Parent Association (PA)

Meetings are a place to connect with the life of the school… ALL PARENTS are welcome to attend PA meetings!

The Parent Community provides vital support to the school and the faculty. As René Querido, one of Boulder Valley’s founders, expressed it, the parents provide a “mantle of warmth” around the Board of Trustees and the Faculty. The parent community provides vital support to the school. Parents make the school possible, not only because they send their children, but because they have the willingness to serve and raise funds which are critical activities for all independent schools. Through committee work with faculty & board members, parents are instrumental in coordinating and providing both individual classes and school-wide social activities which generate goodwill, deepen the understanding of Waldorf education, and promote the growth of the school community. Parents share the responsibility for creating and sustaining the life and culture of the school. Together the community enhances the growth and development through conversation and mutual support.

Service and Volunteering Hours Each Year

Each family is required to complete 20 service hours each year, as designated on the Enrollment Contract (single parents need only complete 10 hours). Connect with the office to sign up for events and track your completed service hours.

More Opportunities for Community Connection

Parent Evenings

This is the opportunity for the class teacher to meet with the parents as a group. These meetings act to create a richer experience and deeper understanding of your child’s school life. Parental attendance is mandatory at a minimum of two Parent Evenings each year. Attendance by both parents is ideal, however, at least one parent is sufficient. These meetings are so important for communication between the class teacher and the parents.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

In addition to the Parent Evenings throughout the year, mandatory conferences are scheduled twice each year each Fall and Spring. Parents or teachers may request additional conferences at other times during the school year as necessary. Childcare are available for enrolled students during Parent-Teacher Conferences.  There can be NO UNSUPERVISED CHILDREN when school is closed

“Class Parents”

Connect with a “Class Parent” to help with classroom specific activities or consider becoming a Class Parent yourself! Each class invites a parent (or several) to serve as Class Parent(s) for the school year. Class Parents support the teacher in planning events and notifying all of the families in the class of pertinent information. Class Parent positions are usually filled at the first Parent Meetings each school year. The Class Parent coordinates:

  • Teacher support by facilitating communication between parents and the teacher about classroom business via email and telephone
  • Help new parents navigate our school! Community helps us thrive; be a source of support for new families.
  • Volunteer recruitment for class activities such as finding field trip drivers or helping to organize a class party
  • Class donation to the annual auction and other class donations
  • Teachers gifts
  • Flowers for the classroom
  • Special Classroom events
  • Snacks and clean-up for Parent Evenings
